And I really only found it by chance, and happened upon its existence while searching through Steering Wheel compatibility lists for the PS2 and Gamecube. Hot Wheels Velocity X is as fresh a gaming experience I can possibly have these days, at least when talking borderline-retro titles. So there! No nostalgia to cloud my judgement. As much as I love me some vehicular action, I seriously doubt I’d have picked a kids game like this over the more mature offerings I was drowning in on the Xbox. Truthfully, even if it was an Xbox title, I’d have likely skipped it anyway, because, well, it’s a Hot Wheels game. I owned an Xbox back in those particularly glorious sixth-generation days, and owing to the fact that this game found release on the PS2, Gamecube and PC, Hot Wheels Velocity X completely passed me by. Now, before we get started, I have to tell you that I have no nostalgia attached to this game.

Quality? Fuck that! GIMME THOSE SALES!ĭisappointing then, but every so often, you’d get a game like Hot Wheels: Velocity X. Kids licensed games were even worse, generally speaking. OK, they were mostly misses, as with startling regularity, hot properties of the day were shoehorned into genres they had no place being in. Licensed games of the 90s/00s could be hit or miss. Wish I could justify getting the kids off the computer so I could play their game.I really didn’t think I’d be sitting at my desk – in 2018, no less – writing about how fantastic a game Hot Wheels Velocity X: Maximum Justice is, yet here we are. Wipe outs and crashes are FUN! You can pick up or outfit your vehicle with weapons to blast enemies or items in your way. Between missions there is some FMV that gives you hints and tells you your next mission. Some modifications to your car can be made including unlockable features. Controls are tight, (we use a Logitech game pad). You drive through the streets of a colorful and detailed city. I compare this to San Francisco Rush 2049 on the Sega Dreamcast.

Also has a battle mode, (very fun alone and even better with an extra controller hooked up).

It is an arcade style racer through the streets. Also not an off-road or closed circut racing game either. This is like an arcade style driving game, not a simulation style. This review is based on watching my young children play - I don't usually get to take a turn.īegins with a story mode bla bla bla. This one is the GREAT FIND of the month for our family. My kids love it, I want my turn to play it!
